Mountain West Herbal Consulting is the herbal practice of Daniel Burton, based in Denver, Colorado. I am a Western herbalist with three years of training, including a year-long clinical internship at the Ohlone Center of Herbal Studies in Berkeley, California. I offer individual consultations, custom herbal products, and community education classes in Denver and beyond.
While medical doctors focus on treating individual disease conditions with drugs, my focus is on promoting more optimal health through the use of herbs, diet, and lifestyle changes. I view each person as a whole and unique individual, rather than merely a collection of symptoms. Through natural means that complement each person’s individual constitution, I help people achieve a greater state of health and balance, where their own bodies are more resilient and better able to cope with the challenges they face. I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Instead, I support the body’s natural mechanisms, so that it is better able to heal itself.
My background is in the North American school of Western herbalism, which is our own culture’s indigenous system of traditional medicine, and is uniquely oriented towards the types of problems we face in our society. This draws primarily from the plants of Europe and North America, supplemented by herbs from around the world. Like Eastern medicine, it has a constitutional system that looks at each person’s patterns of imbalance differently, but this is based on a modern, scientific understanding of the stress response and physiology.
My specialties include men’s health and working with people who have ADHD, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. I have some additional training in holistic nutrition, and I have an avid interest in evolutionary human diets and their application to modern health. I believe that we can reap many benefits from looking at the more natural lifestyles of our ancestors, and my overall approach is one that seeks to help people live more in tune with our genetic heritage and evolutionary past.
I believe than healthy living can be ecologically sustainable, and I use local, organically cultivated and ecologically wildcrafted plants whenever possible. When suitable, I give preference to plants from the local bioregion. I supplement these with sustainably harvested plants from around the world.
I offer individual consultations at my Denver location, as well as telephone appointments for clients outside of the Denver area. Home visits are available at an additional charge. Please contact me to today to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your health needs.
